چکیده

This paper presents a comtmtational model of incremental utterance production in task-oriented dialogues. This model incrementally produces utterantes to propose the solution of a given problem, while simultaneously solving the problem in a stepwise manner. Even when the solution has been partially determined, this model starts utterances to satisfy time constraints where pauses in mid-utterance must not exceed a certain length. The results of an analysis of discourse structure in a dialogue corpus are presented and the fine structure of discourse that contributes to the incremental s t rategy of ut terance production is described. This model utilizes such a discourse structure to incrementally produce utterances constituting a discourse. Pragmat ic constraints are exploited to guarantee the relevance of discourses, which are evaluated by an utterance simulation experiment.

A Multilevel Approach To Handle Non-Standard Input

In the project "Procedural Dialogue Models" being carried on at the University of Bielefeld we have developed an Incremental multilevel parsing formalism to reconstruct task-oriented dialogues. A major difficulty we have had to overcome is that the dialogues are real ones with numerous ungrammatical utterances. The approach we have devised to cope with this problem is reported here. I THE INCRE...

A Framework for Processing Corrections in Task-Oriented Dialogues

Mundane discourse abounds with utterances referring to other utterances. These meta-language utterances appear with surprising frequency in task-oriented dialogues, such as those arising in the context of a natural language interface to an operating system. This paper identifies some simpler types of dialogue-level meta language utterance and provides a computational framework to process such p...

Toward a Model for Incremental Grounding in Spoken Dialogue Systems

Recent advances in incremental language processing for dialogue systems promise to enable more natural conversation between humans and computers. By analyzing the user’s utterance while it is still in progress, systems can provide more human-like overlapping and backchannel responses to convey their level of understanding and respond more quickly. In this paper, we look at examples of several o...

Managing ambiguities across utterances in dialogue

Task-oriented dialogue systems exploit context to interpret user utterances correctly. When the correct interpretation of a user utterance is ambiguous, a common response is to employ a special process of clarification that delays context update until important ambiguities are resolved, so that the main dialogue task can proceed with an unambiguous context. In this paper, we describe an impleme...

Discovering Latent Structure in Task-Oriented Dialogues

A key challenge for computational conversation models is to discover latent structure in task-oriented dialogue, since it provides a basis for analysing, evaluating, and building conversational systems. We propose three new unsupervised models to discover latent structures in task-oriented dialogues. Our methods synthesize hidden Markov models (for underlying state) and topic models (to connect...
